Michael was the international Director at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Institute of Leadership, based in Bahrain, for over 3 ½ years. In his role he lead post graduate education to Government Legislators, Policy Makers, Nurses, Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists and a host of Multi-Disciplinary Healthcare Professionals. Michael also provided expert policy advice to the Ministry of Health, Bahrain and Consultancy to healthcare organisations in Dubai, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan. Michael has held a number of senior posts to include Nursing Policy Advisor Department of Health and Children, Ireland, National Nursing & Midwifery Services Director for the Health Service Executive, Ireland, Area Director of Nursing & Midwifery, Dublin mid Leinster and Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Palliative Care at Letterkenny and Sligo University Hospitals and Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. Michael held the position of Dean Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI from 2020 – 2022 and currently is Dean Emeritus. He currently works as a Consultant to the World Health Organisation. Michael currently works part time for the Irish Cancer Society as a Night Nurse providing end-of-life care to patients and supporting their families in their own homes. Michael’s academic career includes completing his PhD at Dublin City University, BSc (Hons), University of Ulster, MBA (Hons) Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin and a Diploma in Education from Leicester University. In 2015 he completed the Post Graduate Implementation Science Programme at Trinity College, Dublin. He is also a graduate of Harvard University International Healthcare Management programme. Michael is a Registered Mediator with the Mediation Institute of Ireland. He was Chair of IDF Europe (1997- 2003), IDF Vicepresident (2003-2009), Chairman of the IDF Science Task Force (2009-2012), founder of the Members of the European Parliament Diabetes Working Group. Jane Clemensen is a professor at the Hans Christian Andersen Children’s Hospital and Centre for Innovative Medical Technology, CIMT. She is furthermore the manager of Centre for Compassion in healthcare in the Region of Southern Denmark. Jane’s research projects all have a starting point in the clinical practice, and involvement of all stakeholders including patients and relatives. They all revolve around the research methodology called Participatory Design (PD). Projects that use PD start by identifying and analyzing the clinical problem or challenge and from that develop a solution or technology. This is in contrast to many projects that start by identifying a technology and wanting to find a clinical environment to test it in. PD is a well-known design, especially within computer science, and has also proven to be an appropriate research design within health research. Jane applied this design for the first time in a health science context in 2003 in her own PhD project and she is a pioneer both in the field of Health Technology and Participatory Design in Health Sciences. Since, she has supervised numerous projects – all with the outcome of a successful changed clinical practice by creating new ways of organizing healthcare services, changes of mindsets and new patients pathways. Her recent area of interest is Ecology of Care and Compassion and she is now working on how to integrate compassion skills to secure staffs well-being in order to secure healthy relations with colleagues, patients and relatives. She is a well know speaker at national and international conferences and she has a long lasting collaboration with Professor Anthony Smith and his research group, Centre of Online Health, Brisbane, Australia. Collin Tukuitonga is the inaugural Associate Dean Pacific and Associate Professor of Public Health in the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland. He has comprehensive clinical, public health and Public policy experience in New Zealand, the Pacific Islands and internationally. Collin was the Director-General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community for seven years to December 2019. It is the largest development organisation serving the Pacific islands. Dr. Vargas is a passionate proponent of elevating the nursing profession through nursing leadership in patient care. She has over 20 years of nursing experience and has an impressive clinical background in critical care and cardiology. Dr. Vargas is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Nursing in William Paterson University. He is a Fellow of Chartered Management Institute, UK.He has over thirty years working experience in public, private and international organisations. James previously worked for the Ghana Ministry of Health, supporting the development of policies on health worker planning, production and management. James has worked as a consultant for the World Health Organisation, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank in human resource for health and climate change projects.His research focus is in health systems strengthening, human resource management, organizational development, health information technology and public health policy. He has published over 45 articles in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters or technical reports.
